Childcare news and COVID-19 updates
The Department for Education (DfE) has confirmed that childcare providers can open up and offer places to vulnerable childcare, children of key workers and other children. The DfE has issued guidance on how providers can do this safely and also guidance for parents.
Dr Robyn Dewis, Director of Public Health, has sent updated guidance to parents on the coronavirus outbreak.
28/09/2020 - Government translations on guidance for parents
Guidance for parents and carers on early years providers, schools and colleges in the autumn term has been translated into multiple languages.
14/09/2020 - Government update on the ECH needs assessment and plan processes
Regulations that the Government made to provide additional flexibility over the statutory timescales for various EHC needs assessment and plan processes will expire as planned on 25 September 2020. The normal statutory timescales will apply from that date.
An update has been published to Changes to the law on education, health and care needs assessments and plans due to coronavirus to reflect this.

03/08/2020 - Guidance on what childcare cost parents should pay during Covid-19
The Competitions and Marketing Authority (CMA) have recently published some guidance for childcare providers of early years services, requesting providers to examine their contracts with parents and ensure that the fees and charging sections comply with consumer law. The CMA is not announcing any enforcement action at this stage but will continue to monitor the sector. Please take a look at the CMA’s open letter to childcare providers and the Department for Education (DfE) guidance which gives some very detailed information on what providers can ask parents to pay for during the COVID-19 pandemic.
01/07/2020 - School admissions Code consultation
The Department for Education has launched a consultation on the School Admissions Code and welcomes your feedback. The consultation is open and will run until 16 October. Improvements to this process will have a positive impact on all children seeking a school place in-year but will be particularly beneficial for the most vulnerable.
