Births, deaths and ceremonies
In line with government direction, the crematorium office and Garden of Remembrance remain closed to the public and all enquiries should be made by email to bereavement@derby.gov.uk.
Controlled measures will be put in place for upcoming services, and we are working closely with funeral directors to try as far as possible to enable funerals to continue to take place. Access to the Garden of Remembrance will be given to a limited amount of people attending funerals.
More information on the controlled measures is available in our Coronavirus section.
Cemeteries
In line with government direction, our cemeteries have now reopened to the general public. Visitors are reminded to observe social distancing rules while tending the graves of loved ones amid the coronavirus crisis.
Nottingham Road cemetery will be open only via the main entrance across from Tesco.
Registrars services
We are now able to offer some registrars services. However, please be aware that any appointments will be taking place at Royal Oak House instead of the Council House.
Copy certificates
Due to reduced staffing levels, Registrars will not be able to produce any priority service copy certificates (usually issued on the same day). All certificates will be posted out to customers as per the standard service.
For more information, visit our Registration - copy certificates page.
Birth registrations
Throughout the national restrictions (Thursday 5 November - Wednesday 2 December), birth registrations will continue by appointment only at Royal Oak House.
If you're unable to go online, please call 01332 641680. If your circumstances mean you need to urgently register your baby please email customerservices@derby.gov.uk.
Please be advised that claims for child benefit and Universal Credit can still be made even if the birth has not yet been registered due to the current situation.
Notice of marriage and notice of civil partnership
We are now able to offer a limited number of notice of marriage and notice of civil partnership appointments.
If your ceremony is booked for 2021, please consider delaying your appointment until after 1 October 2020. This will give you enough time to complete your notice of marriage/notice of civil partnership, whilst helping us to prioritise the ceremonies booked for 2020.
To book an appointment, please call 01332 641680 or email customerservices@derby.gov.uk.
Wedding ceremonies
The Government has announced that weddings and civil partnership ceremonies will not be permitted to take place between Thursday 5 November and Wednesday 2 December except in exceptional circumstances. However, notice of marriage appointments will continue. The Council will speak to couples directly about their wedding and registration plans. Other registrations services will continue as normal.
To book or rearrange your wedding ceremony, please call 01332 641680 or email customerservices@derby.gov.uk to provide your contact details including a telephone number. We will then contact you to discuss the latest Government guidance on conducting wedding ceremonies and answer any questions you may have.
Registering a death
If you need to register a death, please call 01332 641680 to arrange for a call from a registrar.
