Munio II – Mill Fleam
Bass’ Rec Munio Mill Fleam is our latest project along the west riverbank in Derby.
A new pumping station will be constructed as the final stage of the Munio project, needed on the Mill Fleam to further reduce the risk of the city centre flooding when the level of the Derwent is high. It will be the means by which water in the Markeaton Brook will still be able to discharge into the Derwent rather than back up the watercourse and flood adjacent roads and properties in the centre of the city.
The project is part-funded by the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the last European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme for the UK and is designed to deliver enhanced protection for around 250 commercial properties in the city centre and Pride Park.
The project enhances defined areas of existing habitat, actively promoting and improving biodiversity in various locations around Bass’ Recreation Ground and includes the creation of a fish spawning backwash lagoon.
The works are expected to be fully underway this year and completed in early 2023.
