Cleaning vehicles
Unfortunately, it has been brought to our attention that some drivers are not following government guidance and Council guidance regarding the safe cleaning of your vehicle.
To clarify, it is advisable that your vehicle is thoroughly cleaned, with disinfectant if possible, before you take it out at the beginning of your shift and again when you end your shift.
You must also clean all surfaces after each fare is completed, paying particular attention to any places that are touched by a passenger, such as grab handles, door handles, payment machines and/or payment hatch.
These measures are not only in place to protect the next passenger entering your vehicle, but will also help to protect yourself.
If you are considering installing a temporary protective screen please read Installing Protective Screens Advice.

House to house collections
Whilst regulations do not appear to prevent door to door collections, you will need to have risk assessed what you are doing and have appropriate controls in place to:
- restrict contact with the public
- ensure that the collectors are able to maintain a high degree of personal hygiene and are not putting themselves at risk
It is advisable to put measures in place, such as requesting bags of clothes are only left outside for collection if the household:
- is in good health
- do not have symptoms
- are not self-isolating
As a company, you have a duty to your collectors who will need appropriate Personal Protection Equipment and possibly a means of being able to wash and dry their hands when gloves need replacing. This can be as simple as a plastic container of appropriately mixed water.
It is advisable that they also carry antibacterial wipes so that they can regularly clean and disinfect hand contact points in the vehicles they are using.
Permits for street collections and leaflet distribution
Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and the social distancing measures that have been introduced in the City Centre, we are not currently accepting applications for street collections and leaflet distribution permits for dates up to and including the 30 April 2021. This will be reviewed regularly and may need to be extended.
We will accept applications with supporting documentation for future dates and provisionally allocate you a booking slot. However, we will not issue the permit until closer to the time and we reserve the right to not issue the permit if there are continuing concerns related to the pandemic.
