With just under a week to go until the General Election, the city’s Acting Returning Officer is encouraging residents to use their vote.
There are three constituencies in Derby – Derby North, Derby South and Mid Derbyshire – and on Thursday 12th December, 213,728 registered voters will have the opportunity to vote to elect a Member of Parliament to represent them.
Carole Mills, Acting Returning Officer said:
Every vote matters and we want Derby residents to ensure their voices are heard next week. You don’t need your polling card to vote in person if you’re on the electoral register, but you’re welcome to take it along if you want to. For those voting by post, please complete your ballot papers in private and return them as soon as possible. Postal ballot papers are now being issued and completed postal vote packs must be returned by 10.00pm on Election Day or they will not be counted. If you’re unable to post your vote or forget, please bring it personally to the Council House or your local polling station before polls close at 10pm on 12th December.
Polling stations will be open from 7.00am to 10.00pm. Residents can vote if they are registered, are 18 or over on 12 December 2019 and are:
- a British citizen, or
- a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or
- a citizen of the Irish Republic.
