Castleward Urban Village development moves forward

Derby City Council is moving forward with the next stage of development for the Castleward Urban Village regeneration scheme that aims to deliver at least 800 new homes by 2028.
With 164 new homes already created by developer partner Compendium Living and another 54 in construction, a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) is being proposed that will ensure the Council assembles sufficient land to create a further 512 new homes.
The Council aims to reach agreement with all affected owners and occupiers in advance of a CPO. Support with relocation options is being provided by Marketing Derby to help find alternative premises within the city.
Business holders and property owners recently met with senior officers and Councillors in October to discuss the CPO proposal, timeline and mechanism for compensation.

As the investment promotion agency for Derby and Derbyshire, Marketing Derby’s remit is to support economic growth and it is working with Derby City Council to support those businesses affected by the next phase of Castleward development, ascertain their property requirements and provide information through the open market on appropriate alternative spaces.
In September 2019, Cabinet approved the construction of a primary and nursery school in Castleward creating 300 new school places for children, aged between five and 11 and with 39 places for pre-school children to serve the homes being built and the local community.
The site was recently visited by Secretary of State, Robert Jenrick who visited Castleward Urban village to hear about the £100million regeneration scheme.
The Cabinet will be asked to approve this recommendation at Council Cabinet on Wednesday 13th November.
