Winter Mini Reading Challenge

Get your children involved this winter

The Reading Agency is teaming up with WWF UK for the Wild World Heroes Winter Mini Challenge! Join the Wild World Heroes as they embark on an Arctic adventure to find out about the creatures that live there. Find out about the environmental issues facing this precious, remote place and even spot a narwhal or two. The challenge will launch on 1st December and ends on 16 January 2022.

The Winter Mini Challenge encourages children to keep up their reading habits over the winter holidays, with a free-to-access website featuring rewards for reading and reviewing books. To take part in the Winter Mini Challenge, children simply read three or more books – these can be any books of their choice. Every time they finish a book, they add it to their Challenge website profile and leave a short book review. Reaching their online reading goal will unlock a limited-edition virtual badge and a special Winter Mini Challenge certificate to print off and keep!

We are also supporting the Winter Mini Challenge with Arctic themed displays in all our libraries in Derby to encourage children to get involved and read their 3 books, so why not come and visit us!

  • To take part, children simply read three or more books - these can be any books of their choice. Each time they finish a book they add it to their Challenge website profile and leave a short book review.
  • Each time a book is added to the child's online profile, they will earn a fun digital reward!
  • There will be a whole host of other fun activities, book recommendations and games from the best children's authors and illustrators featured on the website.
  • Children can visit the Winter Mini challenge website at wintermini.org.uk from 1 December 2021 to start rating and reviewing their books and enjoying the online activities.
