Brilliant Derby is a key part of the City’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Brilliant Derby, a unique city-wide mental health wellbeing programme for the people of Derby, is to launch with a series of four Wellbeing Workouts to be broadcast over the next 6 weeks.

The first workout will premiere on the Brilliant Derby YouTube channel on Monday 8 February with more sessions to follow on 15 February and then the 8 and 15 March. The sessions will then be available to catch-up at any time.

Brilliant Derby is a key part of the City’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and the Derby City Partnership have teamed up with respected wellbeing and happiness expert, Dr Andy Cope, from Derby, to deliver the workouts, which will introduce some basic principles, tools and techniques to help us take charge of our own wellbeing.

In the same way that we might go to the gym to improve our physical fitness, the Brilliant Derby Wellbeing Workouts are designed to look after our mental health. We’ve all experienced some difficult moments during the last year and these workouts are aimed to give you back that spring in your step and help your resilience.

The long-term aim of the project is to build individual and collective resilience, make a stand against the rising tide of mental ill-health, supporting and complimenting the superb mental health professionals in the city.

Dr Andy Cope said:

These four sessions really are just the beginning, we want 2021 to be the year of Brilliant Derby, the year of a unique city-wide wellbeing revolution. This revolution starts in the hearts and heads of the citizens of our magnificent city which shows up in our behaviours and ripples out into our communities and beyond.

I’d love for everyone to tune in on Mondays or to catch up with them later in the week there’ll be loads of good stuff on positivity, resilience, purpose, gratitude, altruism, strengths, happiness, mindfulness, mental health, physical health, mindset and self-esteem.

Cabinet Member Roy Webb, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Housing said:

Plans for the development of Brilliant Derby are well underway and we’re excited to see the concept spread into the community. Whilst these initial sessions are running, we’re working hard in the background to make this a sustainable community driven revolution!

We’d love to have a whole series of wellbeing champions across the City, in businesses, in schools and community groups, who can inspire others and lead sessions to get even more people involved in this unique Derby based project.
