Council Tax reminder service
We have introduced a reminder service to help you keep your Council Tax account up to date and avoid paying extra costs. We know the cost of living crisis is affecting many residents, and this service is to help you stay on track.
If you don't pay by Direct Debit, you might receive an email or text message to remind you that a payment is due soon or is overdue. Please read these messages carefully and do not ignore them.
Our aims are to:
- help you avoid arrears by offering early support
- ensure Council Tax is collected fairly and promptly.
What to look for
The email will be from council.tax@derby.gov.uk and will include your Council Tax account reference.
The text message will come from GOVUK. It will include the name of the Council Tax payer and a secure link to the Council website.
What you need to do
The messages will have links to our website about payment methods so you can make prompt payment. If you're having difficulty making this payment, please don't ignore it. We can help.
You can create your own payment arrangement online.
Are you on Universal Credit or a low income? You may be able to claim help with your payments. Find out about Council Tax Support.
Important things to remember
We'll never ask for your bank details by text or email.
You can't solely rely on these reminders. It's your responsibility to ensure payments are made on time to avoid recovery action and additional costs.
Pay by Direct Debit
The easiest and most convenient way to pay your business rates is by Direct Debit. You can spread your payments over 10 or 12 months, and we offer a wide choice of payment dates.
You can also manage your Council Tax online by signing up to myAccount.
Protecting your data
We will only send emails to the email address that we have on file for you. Any website links we include in the email will be to the website pages of Derby City Council or the Government. For information about how we process information, visit our Privacy notices pages.
This service is confidential, and your mobile number will not be shared with anyone else: you won’t get any other marketing messages to your phone.
