Mediation
Mediation can be an effective way of dealing with conflict. It is where somebody is helping to end a dispute by working with both sides to help them reach an agreement. These disputes can occur anywhere, for example at work, in the community and in the family,
Mediation has a clear structure, timetable and approach. It is a system that helps participants to have a control over the outcome. It is likely to produce a result that is agreeable to both parties, so solutions are often sustained.
Mediation demands that parties engage willingly, so this increases the chance of them being able to understand the other party’s point of view and work on underlying causes. Again this means that outcomes are more likely to be sustained and it helps to preserve positive relationships.
