Parking at Chapel Street and Abbey Street car parks will be free on Saturday 7th December, as Derby City Council supports Small Business Saturday.
The national event, first held in the UK in 2013, aims to encourage people to ‘shop local’ and support small independent businesses in their communities and provide a boost in the lead up to Christmas.
To encourage as many people as possible to come into the city and support these small businesses, the Council will be offering free all-day parking at their Chapel Street and Abbey Street car parks, as well as a discounted all day rate of £2.50 at their other on-street pay and display locations and surface level car parks, when using MiPermit to pay.
Alan Smith, Head of Economic Growth at Derby City Council said:
It’s really important that we support our high streets which are vital to our local communities, and celebrate the valuable contribution the independent retailers make to our city. There are some wonderful independent businesses here in Derby, and this is just one small way we can help to support them by encouraging more people into the city to visit them and see what they have to offer.
Car parks included in the offer are:
- Abbey Street
- Chapel Street
- Ford Street
- Sovereign
- Drewry Lane
- Grove Street
- Little City
- Wilmot Street
- Darwin Place
Drivers can benefit from these parking rates, by downloading the MiPermit app on the Android Play Store or the Apple Store
