Enhanced designs for the new swimming pool complex at Moorways have been signed off by local planners.

The designs submitted during the summer have been extended to include a water park. It now features two four storey flumes, England’s first wave generating wow ball and the first wave rider slide of its type. For added fun there will also be dual racer slides, a beach area and water playground with mini slides and water jets.

Changes have also been made to the exterior which will now be clad in dual tone silver to gold metallic material that will shift in colour depending on the position of the sun.

Claire Davenport Director for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said:

Now we have planning permission for this exciting project, we can continue to move forward with the detailed designs. The project will continue to gather pace and work on site will start this month.

The 50m pool can be divided into three separate 25m pools using moving floors and booms, giving the operator maximum flexibility. In addition there will also be a learner pool that can be used for lessons and other activities.

Sauna and steam rooms, exercise studios and a modern gym kitted out with the latest equipment will provide a comprehensive health and fitness experience. The site will also feature a café with soft play, multi-use rooms and a large multi-use area fitted out with a family activity.

Derby City Council has approved £42 million in funding for the project that is expected to be completed in late 2021.
