Derby City Council has launched a recruitment drive to encourage applicants for social care roles, to help support its mobile and non-mobile worker teams.
Social care is nationally under strain due to the extra support needed for vulnerable and elderly people during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a growing need to support people who are isolated due to coronavirus, or who have recently returned home from hospital.
A particularly important aspect of the team’s work is to support customers in their homes or in assessment hubs to decrease the pressure on hospital bed spaces and ease the transition during discharging. Working closely with NHS colleagues, the team are responsive to the needs of customers by supporting the prevention of hospital admission and facilitating hospital discharge.
All roles are paid and there are opportunities for permanent mobile and non-mobile positions. If you are unable to drive and and/or do not have a car for business purpose then then please apply for non-mobile support worker role.
Successful candidates would be supporting customers to regain and maximise their independence, including:
- Washing
- Dressing/undressing
- Meal preparation support
- Assistance with taking medication
- Helping build customers confidence in their day to day activity
To be considered, candidates must be able to demonstrate a positive approach with a keen willingness to learn, be self-motivated and enjoy working in a rapid response setting.
If you have experience in the care field, ideally possess level 2 in Health and Social Care and share our passion to make a difference – the team wants to hear from you.
Councillor Roy Webb, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Housing, said:
It is during difficult times such as these that it becomes even more clear just how important care roles are. Our teams in social care work with compassion and dedication with vulnerable residents of Derby, which eases the pressure on our hospital services. We are eager to hear from individuals who have the appropriate experience and qualifications to take up this invaluable role.
