Construction of Derby’s new 50m pool and water park at Moorways began in February. Despite the challenging circumstances work on-site has progressed significantly.

When completed the new facilities at Moorways Sports Village will include a 50m pool, water park, learner pool, and soft play alongside a comprehensive health and fitness offer.

Councillor Robin Wood, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said:

Bowmer + Kirkland have done a fantastic job under extremely challenging circumstances. Progress on site has been good and this 50m pool and water park is something the people of Derby and surrounding area can really get excited about.

The new water park is set to have plenty of thrills with two four storey flumes along with England’s first wave generating wow ball and wave rider slide. There will be more fun for all of the family with dual racers slide and a beach water playground area with mini slides and jets.

Flexibility is at the heart of the design for the new 50m pool, which utilises innovative technologies so it can be transformed into three separate pools. This means a greater variety of sessions can be held at the same time providing customers with more choice.

Moorways Sports Village will also have a learner pool providing an excellent environment for swimmers of all ages to have lessons.

A spacious modern gym will be kitted out with the latest equipment in addition to the three studios for a comprehensive health and fitness experience. Sauna and steam rooms will provide visitors with the opportunity to relax after a swim or workout.

On the ground floor there will also be a Café offering a range of refreshments as well as a soft play area for kids.

Moorways Sports Village will be a comprehensive leisure destination offering citizens and visitors a great experience.

Derby City Council has approved £42 million to deliver the project and construction is scheduled to be completed by late 2021.
