The search is on for local gift makers and traders to set out their stall in Derby Market Place this December.

As part of the city’s Festive Derby celebrations, Derby Market Place will be transformed into a series of Christmas markets, and local small business owners, creatives and makers with Christmas decoration and gift stalls are invited to bid for a pitch at the first two markets, from 4 – 6 Dec and 10 – 13 Dec, to complement the range of stalls which have already signed up.

The Derby Market Place Festive Markets will provide a unique opportunity to showcase Christmas decorations and gifts in a clear and established destination, with full COVID-secure measures in place, including staff to facilitate social distancing and safe visitor numbers, hand sanitiser, a one-way system and regular cleaning of toilets. Hours of trading are 10am to 4pm.

Interested stallholders of Christmas decorations and gift products should call the Derby LIVE outdoor events team on 01332 255193 for a chat, or email the Space Hire team for an application form without delay, as many spaces are already taken. Please note that as this is a curated market, a place cannot be guaranteed, but the Derby LIVE team would encourage those who fit the criteria to apply. At this time we are not looking for takeaway catering stalls but would welcome those selling local food and drink gift style products as gifts such as local beer, wine, chutney and jams.

Councillor Robin Wood, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said:

I’m delighted we can offer this opportunity to support small businesses at this important trading time, following the tradition which began in the summer when Derby Market Place was launched as a successful hospitality venue. It will transform into a very festive setting for showcasing locally-made products, with the confidence of COVID-secure measures in place.

Each stall holder will be provided with a 3m x 2.4m covered cabin with WIFI access, heating and power to keep them comfortable throughout their trading period, and supported by an extensive marketing campaign in the run up to Christmas. The cabins will be equipped with a 13amp power supply, lighting and heating. Minimum charges of £72 for the 3 day event and £96 for the 4 day event will be made to cover costs, while keeping them to an absolute minimum to support traders. All costs include VAT.

The Festive Market offer is part of the wider Festive Derby offer which includes lights, outdoor trails and entertainment and live performances. More information can be found on the Visit Derby website.
