Derby LIVE are excited to announce that Oddsocks Productions are returning to Markeaton Park Craft Village this September for their first outdoor performances since lockdown began. Over the summer, our original Outdoor Theatre and Cinema Season was unfortunately cancelled due to Government guidelines on large gatherings, but now we are pleased to be able to see it return for two consecutive weekends of LIVE socially distanced Outdoor Theatre this month.
Oddsocks Productions had to shelve their plans to tour its usual size of open air Shakespeare performances as the Covid-19 crisis hit, but the popular Derby-based touring company are delighted to be making a safe and welcome return, performing two very special shows on its doorstep with The Bard’s Best Bits of Macbeth and The Bard’s Best Bits of King Lear. Quick changes, bonkers battles, wicked witches, ugly sisters, clever disguises and the odd special effect will all take place as family run theatre company bring you some safely distanced al-fresco comedy Shakespeare.
On Friday 11th Sep, 7.00pm & Saturday 12th September, 3.00pm & 7.00pm, join Oddsocks as its cast of three perform Shakespeare’s story of ambition, power and revenge with The Bard’s Best Bits of Macbeth. In just under an hour of fun you will see some hilarious mad-cap, wig-swapping, dagger-dangling, witch-watching comedy for all the family. Join in the battle of Dunsinane, help the witches conjure their apparitions, shout out for the goodies and “boo” the baddies all from the safe distance of your own audience bubble as the story enfolds and draws to a dramatic conclusion.
The following weekend, on Friday 18th Sep, 7.00pm & Saturday 19th Sep, 3.00pm & 7.00pm, pack a picnic, bring a garden chair, and get ready for the competition of a lifetime as the King’s daughters argue over his assets in The Bard’s Best Bits of King Lear. “Boo” the ugly sisters as they pursue their evil plans and cheer as the goodies fight for what’s right when you join Oddsocks as they bring Shakespeare’s story of greed, duplicity and ultimate forgiveness to the stage in their uniquely hilarious way.
Each of the shows are being performed by members of the family run touring company who are bubbled together; Dad Andy, Mum Elli, daughter Charlie and son Felix, and audiences will be socially distanced. Both comedy performances are 1 hour long with no interval, and the Orangery Café at Markeaton Park will be open for drinks before the performance begins.
Tickets are on sale now for just £31.25 for a 2m x 2m square at Markeaton Park Craft Village for households of up to two adults and two children, and are available on our website or from our Sales and Information Centre phone lines on 01332 255800.
The viewing area in the Craft Village is hard standing, so make sure to bring your own seating to the performance that will fit comfortably into your square as no seats will be available on the day, and make sure to dress appropriately for the weather – the show will go on! We hope you can join us to enjoy all the fun as the family ambitiously attempt to perform Shakespeare’s most epic dramas by cutting out the boring bits and keeping the best bits.
