The Derby Summer Promise has got off to a fantastic start, and it’s not too late for families with 5-16 year olds to sign up for some great activities.
Derby City Council have been working in partnership with Community Action Derby to ensure that a wide and diverse range of youth and community providers have been able to access funding and support from the Holiday Activity and Food Programme (HAF) for the school summer holidays. This has enabled them to provide a fantastic free 4-week holiday club offer of activities, trips, sports and healthy food that’s accessible to children across the city who are eligible for free school meals.
The Derby Summer Promise is an exciting summer of enriching and learning activities for children, and financial support for families and household in an all-inclusive programme. The holiday clubs have been running in several different wards of the city, with activities ranging from creative arts and drama to football, cricket, cycling and even wrestling!
Councillor Evonne Williams, Derby City Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
The heart of this offer is ensuring that children from low income families in Derby have access to fun, physical activities and healthy food over the summer.
Kim Harper, CEO OF Community Action Derby, added that:
Having a series of many different and amazing projects that focus on the needs of children and parents within our diverse communities in Derby is a key part of the offer, and we are very pleased with the response from families.
