Residents are invited to have their say in Derby City Council’s new Empty Property Strategy consultation.
There are currently around 2,300 registered empty homes in the city, of which 1,100 have been empty for at least six months, while around 3,000 people are currently on the City Council’s waiting list.
This strategy will provide the framework to tackle empty homes effectively in the city by:
- Bringing empty homes into use through a range of voluntary support options.
- Increasing the supply of affordable housing through the purchase of empty homes.
- Improving thermal efficiency by renovating properties and bringing those purchased up to a minimum of EPC level C.
The Council is now welcoming thoughts and contributions from the public to help inform its next steps. You can take part by reading the Empty Homes Strategy and either completing the online survey or emailing housing.strategy@derby.gov.uk before Tuesday 27 April.
