The A52 was lit up blue last night in a show of appreciation for the dedicated key workers across the city and region, as the decorative lights on the new footbridge arch were turned on for the first time.

Following final works this week, the new footbridge, will continue to be illuminated each night in recognition of the hard work of NHS staff and all key workers who have continued to work during the coronavirus pandemic.

The bridge, that links the residential area of Chaddesden to the Wyvern and Pride Park, was lifted into place back in May during the midst of the pandemic and opened up to the public in October 2020.

Councillor Matthew Holmes, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transportation said:

“It’s great to see the lighting on our new bridge installed and shining brightly. The LED’s are capable of a wide range of colours, but it’s only right that we choose blue to recognise the efforts of our brilliant NHS staff and all key workers during the ongoing battle against Covid 19.”
