Derby-based singer songwriter Lucy Ward marks the 10th anniversary of the release of her first album at Derby Market Place next month – just one of a great line-up of shows and attractions now booking in the new Derby Loves You temporary venue.

Tribute band ABBA Sensation, stand-up comedy for children and adults, and amazing Virtual Reality experiences are among the treats that have been added to the menu until mid-October, offering something for everyone. And as the nights start to draw in, the heating will go on!

The new all-weather performance space has now been named the Derby Loves You venue in tribute to the huge words above the entrance doors. And alfresco dining will continue at Derby Market Place - check the Derby Market Place website for available dates as we move through Summer and into the Autumn.

It may not seem like five minutes since Lucy Ward arrived on the British folk scene, but she’s back for a very special concert in her home city to celebrate a decade since the release of her first album, Adelphi Has To Fly. This special evening on Friday 13 August is not to be missed.

Derby LIVE, Derby City Council’s arts and events arm, has also linked up some of the best local talent to give award-winning amateur theatre companies and acclaimed performers the opportunity to take to the stage for the first time since the pandemic.

Singer Andy Quinn will bring vintage Swing and Rat Pack favourites to the marquee, while Central Musical Theatre Company return with Sondheim’s revue-style musical Side by Side. Fans of Eurovision will love Gatepost Theatre Company’s Euro Mission – and have a say in deciding the winner in this new show!

As ever, the safety of the public is our priority in our COVID-secure space, with all shows and attractions on sale in line with current Government restrictions.

While ticket prices apply for shows, tables for outdoor dining are free, but booking is essential if you want to be guaranteed a table or chalet. Tables seat up to six people.

After its successful launch last year as an alfresco dining space to boost local independent restaurants and cafes, the aim is for Derby Market Place to do the same for the city’s cultural sector with the addition of the Derby Loves You temporary venue.

Derby Market Place was launched by Derby City Council and partners in the private sector as part of a recovery plan for the city after the first lockdown. It has now been shortlisted as a finalist in the Derbyshire Business Awards for excellence in collaboration.

These new events join the great entertainment already lined up at Derby Market Place over the coming months, with Jazz, Classical and Folk music all on the menu – as well as Derby Beer Festival in August and Derby Folk Festival in October.

Listings for all events can by found on the Derby Market Place website, with more events being added - keep an eye on the Derby Market Place Facebook page

Derby Market Place is supported by our media partner, Smooth Radio. Unless specified, all tickets are available online from Derby Market Place or by calling the Sales and Information Centre on 01332 255800.
