Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council, along with the Lord-Lieutenant and particularly driven by the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, recognise the incredible efforts our wonderful residents have put in, and achieved over this past year, since the Covid-19 pandemic began.
Through volunteering, delivering key responses, providing a wide range of help and support to those in need, along with many more selfless acts, we want to reward those who have gone over and above, particularly for our most vulnerable adults, children and young people.
The Beacon of Hope Award is our way of showing our immense gratitude and thanks to all residents across the County, who have kindly donated their time, during this unprecedented struggle that we have all had to endure.
Councillor Chris Poulter, Leader of Derby City Council said:
On an almost daily basis, we see and hear of the adaptability, flexibility and the determined efforts of so many people, to support ALL those in need throughout our communities. Alongside the Lord-Lieutenant and the High Sheriff we are looking to highlight the incredible efforts of just some of those people, who are selflessly prepared to go the extra mile without ever seeking recognition.
Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council added:
Over the past year Derbyshire residents have worked tirelessly and selflessly to keep communities safe, support the most vulnerable, keep businesses going and pull us all through the most challenging time most of us have ever faced.
Individuals and groups across the city and county have put others first, showing kindness, compassion, enterprise and a strong community spirit, which has been heart-warming to see.
As we continue to live through the pandemic, I’m delighted that Derbyshire County Council is joining forces with Derby City Council, the High Sheriff and the Lord-Lieutenant to recognise the amazing response and relief efforts shown by so many, by launching the Derbyshire Beacon of Hope awards.
We want to hear your views, appreciation, and stories about individuals and/ or organisations, who you feel should be nominated to receive this award, highlighting their key efforts since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Once the winners have been identified, we will present them with their Derbyshire Beacon of Hope Award and talk about what they have been doing during the crisis, and the impact it has had on them and those around them.
Nominations can be submitted between Monday 15 March to Friday 14 May 2021. You can find the nomination form on the Derby City Council website.
