Last year the alfresco dining and entertainment space hosted over 6,000 visitors, and will return again for 2021, with an offer that adapts with the Government’s COVID roadmap.
The venue will again feature bookable chalets, outdoor tables and an exciting new performance area.
Visitors will be able to consume food that they have purchased from restaurants or takeaways across the city or have the option to order online from a venue and have food delivered straight to their tables.
The venue will be COVID-secure and initially allow up to six people to meet in line with Government guidelines.
A licensed bar will also be available for diners to purchase drinks to enjoy with their food.
Tables and chalets can be booked from next month, through the Derby Market Place website.
Councillor Robin Wood Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism said the revival of the scheme was a testament to its success last year.
“Many businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors have been devastated by coronavirus.
The Government guidelines mean that there still needs to be restrictions to how businesses can trade effectively while observing the current health guidance, and we desperately want to support these outlets in any way we can.”
The Derby Market Place initiative was initially the brainchild of the Derby Economic Recovery Task Force, made up of representatives from both public and private sectors formed to lead and drive forward Derby’s economic recovery from the effects of the coronavirus crisis.

Last year Derby Market Place had a huge economic impact for the city; for every £1.00 that was invested, there was an economic return for Derby of £3.30. It also helped Derby with its achievement of 93% in the Centre for Cities Recovery Index.”
Last year, the initiative received a massive welcome from businesses in the hospitality sector. Annie, from Annie’s Burger Shack said:
