Live theatre is coming to Derby Market Place, as COVID restrictions ease and the outdoor city centre venue reaches the next stage of reopening.

The Wind in the Willows is the first of many events to be announced for a new marquee performance area. Derby Theatre’s adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s classic children’s story will be performed from Sunday 27th June to Sunday 11th July.

Derby LIVE, Derby City Council’s arts and events arm, is continuing to work with partners to bring more entertainment to the venue, both before and after this event and in line with the lifting of Government restrictions. Some events are planned for the popular alfresco dining area.

The Wind in the Willows, produced and presented by Derby Theatre, features a talented cast of actor-musicians, with original live songs and music. Join Mole, Ratty, Badger and Mr Toad as they bring their adventures to the city in a perfect summer show for all the family, in an undercover and airy space. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 12th May at 12.00 noon and are available from derbytheatre.co.uk and derbymarketplace.co.uk at only £8 per person.

The opening of the marquee will be in line with the lifting of Government restrictions, and Derby Theatre and Derby Market Place will keep all customers informed of any changes.

Last year the Derby Market Place venue attracted more than 28,600 additional visitors to the city centre to enjoy outdoor dining, entertainment and markets. It was launched to create a new COVID-secure area for socialising while providing a much-needed boost to the city's hospitality industry.

Following the launch of the alfresco dining experience on Friday 23rd April, it will evolve with increased capacity, live entertainment and scheduled shows and events, all designed to support local partners and entertain audiences safely.

The exciting new marquee performance area will transform Derby Market Place into a vibrant area for meeting and entertainment over the summer months, with the venue offering alfresco dining alongside an events programme. Please check social media and derbymarketplace.co.uk for further updates.
