Derby Homes are promoting a number of affordable, rented properties available fit for heroes on behalf of the War Memorial Village Derby in the city.

A mix of houses and bungalows are currently available for those who have been a member of the Armed Forces or Emergency Services, who have a disability and either live in or have a connection to Derby/Derbyshire. It’s likely the empty properties will be snapped up quickly to ensure the ethos of the village lives on.

The village is within easy distance of the major shopping centre at Allenton, with access to all major supermarkets. In addition, the village is on a main bus route providing easy access to Derby City centre.

The War Memorial Village was constructed in 1949 and is a charity which operates specifically to serve the accommodation requirements of disabled veterans of the Armed Services and Emergency Services. There are only two such villages in the UK. In 2019, HRH Princess Anne the Princess Royal visit the village to commemorate its 70th anniversary.

It has been described on its foundation stone as ‘A model village for the disabled’ and to this day operates in the same manner as it was originally intended those many years ago.

It was built on 20-acres of land donated by the Town Council with 45 dwellings ranging from bungalows to two-storey family homes and flats.

Chair of the Trustees of the War Memorial Village Harvey Jennings said:

The aims of the charity today are to own, operate and maintain the high-grade housing specifically for the benefit of disabled former members of HM Forces, the Emergency Services and others whom the Trustees feel meet the criteria to live in the village.

It’s a fantastic place to live and many of our residents stay there for many years and enjoy their time with their neighbours.

It really is a close-knit community, but it’s also very close all local amenities, shops of all types, hairdressers chemist, bakeries and banks – an ideal location.

We are sure there will be plenty of interest in these high-quality properties, so please make sure you register as soon as possible through our website.

War Memorial Village Derby prioritise applications based on criteria and date.

  • You must live in Derby or Derbyshire, or have a connection with the area
