Following the official unveiling of the track in October 2021, the Osmaston Park BMX track is host to a collection of springtime activities suitable for all this April.

The track is a combined project with Derby City Council, Ozzy Wheels, Derby Homes and the Move More team. Following £49,644 joint funding from Derby City Council and the Places to Ride fund (delivered in partnership by British Cycling, Sport England and DCMS), Osmaston Park BMX cycle track was completed in October 2021. The track has been created as a way to give riders of all abilities and ages the facilities to practice their sport. The track offers a variety of berms, rollers and jumps that can be ridden by all riders. The tarmac and stone track will split at half-way providing advanced riders varying jump heights of differing levels of difficultly.

British Cycling awarded project funding from the Places to Ride capital grants programme, with a further 50% match funding which came from Derby City Council’s Housing Revenue Account Estates Pride Budget, which is managed by Derby Homes.

After several months of frequent use, the park is now hosting a mixture of activities suitable for all the family.

Sarah Webster, a Derby City Council Community Parks Officer, said:

“It’s really exciting to see the track being so well received and enjoyed by the local community and further afield. We’ve worked with the Ozzy Wheels group to establish a new British Cycling affiliated club based at Osmaston Park. The club, also named Ozzy Wheels are aiming to start regular sessions soon to provide local riders with the chance to develop their skills at this brilliant track.”

For those who are ready to hop on the bike, they can test their skills on the obstacle course or ride around the BMX track itself. If visitors aren’t so comfortable on the bike, there are activities for them too. There will be craft activities, music, and, of course, an Easter Egg hunt with prizes for the winners. Should the weather permit, a graffiti artist from BabyPeople will be at work decorating the storage containers on site. The artist will be transforming various bits of art that were supplied by the pupils at Ashwood Spencer Academy into graffiti art to customize the container.

The event will be taking place at the Osmaston Park BMX track on 16 April 2022 from 11:00am – 3:00pm. For more information, visit the event webpage.
