Plans for traffic management improvements around Eastwood Drive and North Street are now open for consultation, as Derby City Council asks residents for their views on the proposals.
This area has been the subject of complaints for several years, with concerns centering on parking, speed and volume of traffic using Eastwood Drive and North Street to access the Ring Road or Burton Road.
While several measures, including no entry signs, speed limits and permit parking, have been introduced to try and address the issues, concerns remain among local residents.
Derby City Council have now identified the possibility of a road closure to help better manage traffic in the area. Three options have now been identified to facilitate a road closure, and residents are invited to have their say on the proposals over the next 12 weeks.
- Option One - Closure of North Street at its junction near Eastwood Drive and Snelston Crescent, blocking off the through route from Manor Road to Burton Road and vice versa.
- Option Two - Closure of the Manor Road harbourage which will prevent traffic turning right into Eastwood Drive from Manor Road and vice versa. This will also prevent traffic performing U-turns at this location.
- Option Three - No change, to retain access as currently provided.
It is essential to consult the public and stakeholders for any road closure as it would mean a removal of general right of use for all road users. The 12-week period will ensure that there is sufficient time for all interests and concerns to be heard before a final decision is made.
A spokesperson for Derby City Council said:
Eastwood Drive and Manor Road are areas that we are keen to support. We’ve continued to listen to residents’ concerns and are pleased to have identified three options that we hope will provide a much-needed solution to ongoing traffic issues in the area.
We are grateful for the responses given in previous consultations and are now asking residents to share their views again. I would urge all respondents to look over the proposals on offer and submit their feedback before the deadline so that a final decision can be made.
The consultation on Eastwood Drive and Manor Road opens on Monday 31 January and will run for 12 weeks until Monday 25 April.Residents can find more information and submit their responses on the Let’s Talk Derby website.
