Celebrating one year back together in person after lockdowns, this fantastic group, which meets every Thursday, has lost a combined 47.2 kilos (7 stone 6lbs). Half of the clients have come to the end of their 12-month journey so advisor, Mark Dolman wanted to acknowledge their achievement in a special way.
Liveability is Livewell’s weight loss programme for people with learning and other disabilities in Derby. Mark works with clients and their carers to develop a flexible plan which includes healthy eating and physical activity.
Participants and carers meet up weekly to take part in a variety of fun, adapted sports and activities such as seated volleyball, basketball, cricket, rounders, Boccia, healthy picnics and cycling using accessible bikes from Cycle Derby. They also enjoy sociable activities and days out.
Mark is supported by Livewell advisor, Casey Baxter and the duo are proud to work with such a committed group as Mark explains:
Liveability was the first Livewell group that returned to face-to-face group sessions following the disruption of the pandemic and it’s the first anniversary of this successful group getting back together to carry on their healthy lifestyle journey. It has been great to concentrate on our overall health and well-being with the aim of losing weight and feeling better.
For Liveability members, restricted mobility and medication makes maintaining a healthy weight particularly challenging. So it’s an even greater success that this group has lost weight! Each one of our clients does well in their own right, choosing their own goals, with the main aim of 'giving it a go!’. The group has been out and about in local parks, using the Cycle Derby adapted bikes, undertaking walks based around individual goals and enjoying the opportunity to picnic healthily in the park.
What’s more, having the chance to make friends and enjoy a social cuppa makes Liveability the special group that it is."
Advisor, Casey Baxter added:
Liveability clients work hard in sessions doing a range of different activities and sports to get them moving and always with a smile on their faces. Mark makes losing weight and eating well fun and they enjoy the opportunity to meet with friends and share their progress."
