Derby job seekers are being offered a chance to meet prospective employers over a cuppa in a new type of recruitment fair.
Two teams at Derby City Council have joined forces to create Derby Jobs Café - a series of in-person community events where residents can get help and advice with their job search in a relaxed setting.
The first one takes place this Friday 18 November at Derby City Mission on Normanton Road from 10am to 12.30pm. Admission is free but residents are advised to book.
Organised by the Council’s Employment and Skills and Neighbourhood Partner teams, the Derby Jobs Café offers a relaxed environment where people looking for work can speak directly with local employers. It is aimed at job seekers of all ages, from young people looking to join the workforce to older workers who want a career change or are not ready to retire.
Local employers from a variety of sectors including engineering, retail, transport, and construction are expected to attend, offering a wide variety of live vacancies that people can apply for on the day. Confirmed employers include trentbarton, Toyota, NHS 111, and Derbyshire Police.
Attendees can also learn about employment support available from the Derby Adult Learning Service (DALS), Towards Work and Way 2 Work who can help job seekers with their CVs, interview skills and give other advice about getting a job or changing careers.
Councillor Evonne Williams, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Skills at Derby City Council said:
Derby Jobs Café is a great platform for anyone who is unemployed or considering their future job or training options and would like valuable insight on the world of work.
They will be able to speak to prospective employers who are hiring right now in a less formal setting and really get to understand how companies operate and the vacancies they have.
