Following the generosity that Derby citizens have shown to the recent Warm Coat Appeal, we are now inviting those who need warm coats for their children to get in touch.
Derby City Council launched the Warm Coat Appeal to ensure good quality warm coats are available for the children of Derby this winter. The appeal, which was launched at the beginning of November, has been extremely successful with many people in Derby donating their old coats as well as hats, gloves and scarfs.
Due to the success of the appeal and the unusually warm weather for November, the donation period for winter coats has been extended into December. We would like to continue to encourage people to donate any old children’s coats they may have or encourage others who may have old or unused coats to get in touch. Families in need are invited to get in touch to arrange collection of winter items for their children.
Multiple locations have been set up across the city for coat donations and will continue to be open into December. These facilities are:
- Derwent Children’s Centre. Phone number: 01332 641 010
- Osmaston and Allenton Children’s Centre. Phone number: 01332 956 850
- Rosehill Children’s Centre. Phone number: 01332 641 315
- Derby City Council House. Phone number: 0333 200 6981
- Ashtree House or Stanley Road
If you would like to collect a coat, please call the Children's Centres directly. You can learn more about our children’s centres on our website.
Councillor Evonne Williams, cabinet member for children, young people and skills, said:
The success of this appeal shows how the people of Derby can come together and support families in their communities. We are now asking families in need to come forward and get in touch with a member of the team to organize the collection of a winter coat.
Due to this generosity, we have also decided to keep donations open through December. If you or a loved one have any children’s winter coats that are no longer used but still in good condition, please get in touch with one of our donation centres to help a family in need this winter.”
Derby City Council have recently partnered with Community Action Derby and Derby Homes to create a new online hub for assistance with the cost of living. If you are struggling with the cost of living, this new hub can offer much needed advice as well as the contact information for useful services.
