Derby City Council have launched a Warm Coat Appeal, to ensure good quality warm coats are available for the children of Derby this winter.
The appeal, launched this week and running through November, aims to collect and distribute winter coats to help families who may be struggling with the rising cost of living, and their children to stay warm and reduce waste by encouraging people to share the coats they no longer use rather than throwing them away.
People are encouraged to help a family in need, and donate any childs winter coat – aged 0-12 years that is in good condition. If you know anybody that also has children who may have an old coat to donate, we would like to encourage them to get in touch too.
Multiple locations have been set up across the city for coat donations and will be open throughout November. These facilities are:
- Derwent Children’s Centre. Phone number: 01332 641 010
- Osmaston and Allenton Children’s Centre. Phone number: 01332 956 850
- Rosehill Children’s Centre. Phone number: 01332 641 315
- Derby City Council House. Phone number: 0333 200 6981
- Ashtree House or Stanley Road
You can learn more about our children’s centres on our website.
Councillor Evonne Williams, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Skills, said:
These upcoming months will be difficult for all of us with the increased cost of living and the colder winter weather. There are some families in Derby who will not be able to buy winter items for their children. This is an important time for people in Derby to come together and help those in the community around them.
I would like to strongly encourage anyone who has spare or old children’s coats that are no longer used and in good condition, to donate them to one of our children’s centres. If you have any friends or family that may have spare coats, please let them know about this appeal.”
Derby City Council have recently partnered with Community Action Derby and Derby Homes to create a new online hub for assistance with the cost of living. If you are struggling with the cost of living, this new hub can offer much needed advice as well as the contact information for useful services.
