Derby City Council has been shortlisted for the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Overall Council of the Year award. This award is given to the Local Authority who has been deemed as the best and most innovative in that year. The award seeks to celebrate those who deliver excellence not only in frontline services but in a wide range of different areas as well.

APSE is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting excellent frontline services across the UK. More than 300 local authorities and organisations are members of the APSE. Members of APSE are able to share crucial information, resources and expertise on frontline services with other members in order to develop and deliver essential services across the country.

The seven other councils that have been shortlisted for the award are:

· Cambridge City Council

· Cheshire West and Chester Council

· Inverclyde Council

· Mid and East Antrim Borough Council

· Neath Port Talbot Council

· Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

· Wigan Council

Councillor Baggy Shanker, Leader of Derby City Council, said:

We are honored to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award. Everyone at Derby City Council works to improve and deliver excellent services to the city and to the people who work and live here.

Despite the huge government funding cuts, at Derby City Council we still strive to deliver the best possible services that we can to the city. We are extremely pleased that APSE has recognised our efforts to develop and deliver our wide range of services.”

The city is also finalists in the following categories:

· Best Collaborative Working Initiative (with other public sector or third sector)

· Best Innovation or Demand Management Initiative,

· Best Service Team: Highways, Winter Maintenance and Street Lighting Service

The winner of the APSE Overall Council of the Year Award 2023 will be announced at an awards ceremony in Belfast on Thursday 14 September.
