Alvaston Park welcomes back for the 13th year a heavenly evening of stargazing on Saturday 28 January. This family event is for novices and experienced stargazers, as astronomy knowledge and tips are shared in a fun way.
The Star Party activities are free with the chance to explore the wonders of the night sky through one of Derby and District Astronomical Society’s telescopes and a star walk led by Beyond the Pencil, who bring science, arts and creativity together.
The event welcomes back the ‘Big Bubbleman’, along with space crafts including stomp rockets, starry stories, astronomy-themed crafts, visit the Alvaston Pirate model boat display and much more.
Refreshments are available throughout the evening at the Waterside Café, including hotdogs, jacket potatoes, hot drinks and star themed foods.

This fantastic event goes from strength to strength each year, and in its 13th year continues to bring communities together to enjoy the world of astronomy in a fun and active way.
The event is a partnership between Derby City Council’s Parks Team and Alvaston Park Friends. It runs from 4.30pm to 8.30pm and there is a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities, so visitors are advised to wrap up warm, wear appropriate footwear for outdoors and bring a torch.
