A popular free family event will be back at Alvaston Park this summer. A huge range of activities and entertainment is lined up for the Alvaston Park Community Fun Day on Sunday 23 July.
The annual summer event, which is organised by Alvaston Park Friends in partnership with Derby City Council, was first held back in 2010. Since then, it has grown in popularity and now attracts thousands of visitors to the park.
This year’s fun day will feature singers, dancers and a band performing live in the stage area. Performers include The Invisible Friends choir, the duo Bone, Base & AJ, band Crazy 66 and dancers from both Nadia Jane Performing Arts and HEAT Academy.
There will be many free activities, including a full-sized wrestling ring with live action wrestling, dog show, model boat display, giant bubble workshop and a circus workshop. Other attractions to add to the fun will include inflatables, Zorbs, freshly-cooked food, ice-cream and a wide selection of stalls.
The tennis courts at Alvaston Park have recently reopened following a refurbishment and there are plans to hold activities on the courts during the fun day.
Rachel Taylor, chairperson and events officer for Alvaston Park Friends, said:
We are excited to welcome everyone to this year’s family fun day. Over the years the event has grown in popularity and we now welcome over 10,000 visitors to our hidden gem of a park.
There will be lots to do for all the family, so come along for a fun-packed afternoon.
The Alvaston Park Community Fun Day takes place on Sunday 23 July at Alvaston Park, Meadow Lane, DE24 8QQ, from midday until 4pm. Entry to the event is free. Parking costs £2.
