Thanks to the generosity of local people, the Council’s recent Warm Coat appeal was a massive success

Running from November through to the end of December, the Warm Coat appeal aimed to collect and distribute winter coats to help families who were struggling with the rising cost of living and reduce waste by encouraging people to share the coats they no longer use rather than throwing them away. The original closing date of end November, was extended to the end of the year, due to the amount of donations still coming in.

Recent statistics from the Warm Coat appeal show that over 450 new and pre-loved coats were donated. The donated items were given to local children local children’s charities who will continue to give the coats to children in need.

Our donation points collected a significant amount of the donated coats:

  • Derwent Children’s Centre – 178 donated to families
  • Rosehill Children’s Centre – 115 donated to families
  • Osmaston\Allenton Children’s Centre – 60 donated to families

Councillor Evonne Williams, cabinet member for Children, Young People and Skills, said:

I would like to start by saying a massive thank you to all who donated to the appeal. This is a difficult time for everyone, and the donated coats will make a huge difference to those who need them. I feel extremely proud to be a part of Derby City.

I encourage anyone who may need assistance with the cost of living during this time to visit the cost-of-living webpage to find useful support and advice.”

Derby City Council have partnered with Community Action Derby and Derby Homes to create a new online hub for assistance with the cost of living. If you are struggling with the cost of living, this new hub can offer much needed advice as well as the contact information for useful services
