Over the last few months cyclist from across the world have come to Derby to ride our Velodrome at Derby Arena.
Velos Zwift
The Velos Zwift are a multi-national team of cyclist from around the world who train together on the virtual platform of Zwift.
They also travel the world to ride together in real life cycle activities and events.
In October, the riders had a real life meet up and track session at Derby Arena, for some this was their first time meeting the other cyclist face-to-face, which included one member travelled all the way from California!
For many of these cyclists it was also their first-time riding on a real track, and they chose Derby Arena Velodrome for their first fantastic track session.
As you can imagine, there were some nerves, but with the help of our world champion coaches, who calmed everyone down, and everyone was smiling at the end, and asking when the next session is.
Isle of Man cycling club cross the Irish Sea to ride the Derby Arena Velodrome Track
In October half-term, we were joined by the Isle of Man cycling club, who bring their junior members to Derby to have a “taste” of track cycling. There was 30 riders of all abilities, including 10 new to track cycling.
The experienced group took part in derny (riding behind the motorbike) and madison drills, as well as six riders gaining their track accreditation. Four riders also raced in the Derby Arena Velodrome Track League, getting valuable experience of track racing.
All the riders were a pleasure to coach, and we look forward to seeing them in February 2025.
Come and give the velodrome a go at Derby Arena, find out more.
