Derby City Council wants to hear from carers about their experiences of caring. Councillor Alison Martin, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Care, will host a workshop for carers later this month.

It will take place from 10am until 1pm on Thursday 25 January at the Derby West Indian Community Centre. The workshop will give carers in the city the chance to talk to Cllr Martin about how caring affects them, any issues they have and the support they receive.

Feedback received will steer conversations about how the Council will work with carers when developing carer support in the city.

The event is open to all carers living in Derby. Anyone who wants to go along can register by calling or emailing Citizens Advice Mid Mercia.

Councillor Martin said:

Carers do such an important job and we very much value their contribution to our communities. We want the services we provide to support them to do their great work.

I’d really like to hear people’s real experiences of caring in Derby – good and bad. If the Council, our NHS colleagues and carers work together, we can make a difference.

So, if you’re a carer, please come along to the workshop. By sharing your experiences, you will shape the future of carer support in the city.

A sample of carers in the city were recently asked to take part in the The Survey of Adult Carers in England. In Derby, the survey was carried out by the independent research organisation, Public Perspectives, on behalf of the Council and NHS Digital.

The workshop is being held by the Council in partnership with Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board. Support organisations will be on hand to provide information to carers. Refreshments will be provided.

Derby West Indian Community Centre is in Carrington Street, Derby, DE1 2ND. Register to go along, or find out more, by calling 01332 228777 or email carers-events@citizensadvicemidmercia.org.uk.
