There are just a few days left to take part in Derby City Council’s budget consultation.
The consultation, which closes on Sunday 19 January, invites anyone who lives, works or studies in Derby to share their thoughts on proposals for a balanced, responsible budget for 2025/26.
By law, the Council must set a balanced budget by 11 March every year, setting out how it intends to use its funds to deliver services in the best interests of residents and the city. The Council Plan, which the Council is also consulting about, outlines these priorities.
Proposals include an investment of £31 million into essential services, savings of £10.2 million, and a significant contribution back into the Council’s reserves.
This will be achieved through the continued transformation of services to become more efficient and manage demand, which will mean some reductions and changes to services. Council Tax will increase in line with previous years.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for City Centre, Regeneration, Culture and Tourism said:
We’re proposing a balanced, responsible budget for Derby and are committed to supporting our services as best as we can. Despite the financial challenges we face, we remain ambitious for our city.
We need the views and opinions of our citizens to help us make informed choices about how we shape the next budget. I’d urge anyone living, working or studying in the city to have their say before the consultation closes on Sunday 19 January.”
Details of these proposals can be viewed with the consultation at letstalk.derby.gov.uk/budget-2025. The consultation can be completed online until midnight on Sunday 19 January.
