Derby City Council and Derbyshire Dales District Council have collaborated with <Jump to launch an e-learning tool designed to encourage residents to adopt greener habits at home. Developed with support from Midlands Net Zero Hub and funded by Innovate UK, the new tool will be integrated into the sustainability engagement programme, Green Rewards.
The Green Rewards programme, launched this month, is a web and mobile app-based programme available to all residents in Derby and Derbyshire Dales postcodes for free. It incentivises sustainable behaviours by awarding points to residents who log their actions, with monthly prizes for the members that earn the most points. This latest expansion, titled the Green Home Guide, introduces an interactive digital house where members can earn points for clicking through rooms to discover practical sustainability tips, such as insulation guidance and water-saving habits.
The launch of the Green Home Guide aligns with Derby and Derbyshire’s sustainability efforts, including regional climate action events to drive community-led sustainability action. The guide empowers residents with practical steps to improve home energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
“Encouraging sustainable action at home is key to meeting our environmental goals,”
said Councillor Carmel Swan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Transport and Sustainability,
“The Green Home Guide makes it engaging for residents to learn about the simple changes they can make for a greener future. I’d encourage everyone in the city to get involved, earn points and do their bit for our climate.”
Jason Tyler, Project Manager of the Innovate UK-funded Co-county Carbon Coordination Project added,
“We’re pleased that this funding is going towards a tool that will collate energy-saving advice, so that users can easily find ways to reduce energy bills and help our area reach net zero sooner.”
Jump’s CEO, Josh Cleall, echoed this sentiment:
“We’re thrilled to expand Green Rewards with an interactive tool that brings sustainability advice to life. As councils across the UK look for ways to engage residents in climate action, Derbyshire is leading the way with this e-learning experience.”
The programme also features enhanced user customisation, allowing members more in-depth focus on specific sustainable topics including biodiversity, food waste, and home energy.
In launching Green Rewards, Derby City and Derbyshire Dales join Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Gedling Borough Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Rushcliffe District Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council, plus many more UK local authorities, that have launched sustainable rewards programmes of this kind.
Residents can sign up for the programme at the Derbyshire Green Rewards website.
