Derby’s residents are invited to join this year’s Remembrance Sunday commemorations and pay their respects on Sunday 9 November 2025.
The city’s annual Remembrance Sunday parade and service returns this November, bringing together youth groups, veteran organisations and people from all walks of life to honour the sacrifice of members of the armed forces and emergency services.
From 10.45am, members of local veteran and youth organisations will parade through the city centre onto the Market Place, accompanied by the Salvation Army Band.
Following this, a short service led by the Lord Bishop of Derby and assisted by the Very Rev'd Dr Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby is scheduled for 10.55am, during which a two-minute silence will be observed. Following this, wreaths will be laid at the War Memorial by Civic dignitaries and representatives from local organisations.
The Order of Service is available to download. The service will also be streamed onto a large screen in the Market Place.
Unlike in recent years, troops from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers 148 Divisional Support Company will not be parading, however several local youth and veteran organisations have been invited to take part as in previous years.
Surtal Arts Community Choir, a Derby-based South Asian arts organisation, will also be performing on the Market Place at 10:15am, before the arrival of the Parade.
To protect members of the public and parade participants, there will be several road closures in place on Sunday 9 November, from 8am until 1pm:
- Sowter Road, from its junction with St Michael’s Lane
- Full Street, from its junction with Queen Street
- Amen Alley
- Derwent Street, from its junction with Exeter Place
- Corporation Street
- Tennant Street
- St James’s Street, from the pedestrianised area
- Corn Market
- Iron Gate
There will be no on-street parking within the road closures.
The on-street parking bays on Derwent Street will be reserved for Blue Badge parking on Sunday 9 November. Blue Badge parking is also available on the Morledge.
The Council House car park will be closed to members of the public from 4pm on Saturday 8 November until 2pm on Sunday 9 November.
Parking is available for those travelling into the city centre in both the Chapel Street and Bold Lane multi-storey car parks, which are a short walk from the Market Place.
Members of the public can grab a warm drink and a bite to eat at Derby Market Hall, with live music from Chloe Rose Fisher starting once the service has finished.
Members of the public will also have a chance to pay their respects to those who lost their lives during a short service held at the War Memorial at 11am on Armistice Day (Tuesday 11 November).
