Since becoming a permanent fixture at Raynesway Household Waste and Recycling Centre on 16 August, the Reuse Raynesway shop has gone from strength to strength — helping Derby residents save money, reduce waste and support the city’s environmental goals.
In its first three months, the shop has sold 987 items weighing a total of 6.29 tonnes. The most popular items so far have included furniture, tools, lamps, pictures and hoovers — showing how Derby residents are embracing the opportunity to give everyday items a second life at affordable prices.
The Reuse Raynesway shop, operated by HW Martin on behalf of Derby City Council, first started as a series of pop-up events in 2024. Following strong community support and high demand, it became a permanent feature that was officially opened by Council Leader Cllr Nadine Peatfield and Cllr Ndukwe Onuoha, Cabinet Member for Streetpride, Parks and Leisure, on 16 August 2025.
Cllr Ndukwe Onuoha, Cabinet Member for Streetpride, Parks and Leisure, said:
It’s great to see what our community can achieve together. Nearly a thousand items saved from disposal in just three months is a fantastic result. Every donated or reused item means less waste, less cost, and more value kept within our city. Reuse Raynesway shows that simple everyday choices can make a big difference.
How to visit or donate
The shop is currently open every Monday, Friday and Saturday, offering a wide range of pre-loved items including homeware, furniture, tools, books, toys and décor — all donated by residents.
Visitors do not need to book if they are only browsing or purchasing items. They can simply visit Raynesway HWRC during opening hours to explore what’s on offer.
Those wishing to donate items are asked to book a slot in advance, so a member of the team can assist and ensure that all donations are in suitable condition to be reused.
The Reuse Raynesway shop is located inside Raynesway HWRC, at Raynesway Park Drive, Derby, DE21 7BA. Full details, including opening times and how to book a slot, are available on the Reuse Raynesway shop page.
