Registered adult carers in Derby may be invited to take part in the 2025-26 Survey of Adult Carers in England as part of the Government’s ongoing National Carers Strategy.

The survey, commissioned by Derby City Council on behalf of the Government, and carried out independently by Public Perspectives, was sent out by post on Wednesday 1 October and should be completed and returned by Sunday 30 November.

The Survey of Adult Carers in England (SACE) helps the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to better understand the experiences of unpaid carers and how local services support them. First introduced in 2008, the National Carers Strategy set out a vision for ensuring that carers are supported to:

  • fulfil their educational and employment potential
  • recognise themselves as carers
  • have a family and community life
  • be involved in designing care provision at a local and individual level.

This year’s survey will explore how well current services are helping carers both in their caring roles and in their lives outside of caring, as well as their views on the support provided to the people they care for. The findings will be used as part of the monitoring of the impact of the National Carers Strategy.

Councillor Alison Martin, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Care, said:

Adult carers do an incredibly important job and play a vital role in our community. The services that we provide must support them to continue doing their great work. We are eager to learn more about their experiences in as much detail as possible, and I encourage everyone who receives the survey to take part.
