Derby’s final mobility hub is now complete, making the network of five hubs fully operational and putting the city firmly in the driving seat when it comes to sustainable travel.
Work on the newest mobility hub at the Prince Charles Avenue shopping precinct in Mackworth was completed last month, making it easier than ever before for residents, shoppers, and local businesses to choose sustainable and active transport methods.
Designed to enhance the local economy and draw more footfall to the shopping precinct, the Mackworth mobility hub gives users access to:
- Electric vehicle (EV) chargers and dedicated parking bays for up to three electric vehicles
- An Enterprise Car Club location
- An accessible seating area with bike storage, designed in consultation with local businesses, ward councillors and the Police
- Interactive information totem with live travel updates
Mackworth joins communities in Six Streets, Chaddesden, Allenton and Normanton, who are already benefiting from greater choice in deciding how to travel.

By listening to residents' views and collaborating with local businesses, we have delivered a resource that gives the Mackworth community real flexibility when deciding how to travel. This project is a fantastic example of our commitment to making it easier to choose public or active transport, reduce congestion on the roads, and play our part in combating climate change – making our city a better place to live, shop, and work for everyone.
Mobility hubs are funded by the Department for Transport (DFT)’s Future Transport Zones Fund, which was awarded to Derby City Council to trial new and exciting developments in transport.
Initial data from the city’s completed hubs has been overwhelmingly positive, with recently completed sites like Grove Street in Normanton among the top five performers across the entire East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) region.
