Families and early years professionals across Derby look forward to celebrating the vital role of childminders as National Childminding Week returns from Monday 11 May to Sunday 17 May 2026.

Led by Coram PACEY, this year’s theme, “Magic of Childminding”, shines a spotlight on the important role childminders play in supporting children’s development and helping families balance work and home life. The campaign also encourages childminders and parents to share their experiences and highlight the positive impact of this essential profession.

Childminders provide flexible, high-quality care in a home environment, supporting children’s early learning through play, routines and strong relationships. National Childminding Week aims to raise awareness of these benefits, celebrate the profession and inspire more people to consider a career in childcare.

Councillor Paul Hezelgrave, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Skills at Derby City Council, said:

Childminders play a vital role in giving our youngest residents the best start in life. They provide nurturing, flexible and high-quality education and care that supports children’s development and helps families thrive. National Childminding Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their contribution and encourage more people to consider this rewarding career.”
