Cabinet will be asked to accept £20m of Pride in Place investment for New Normanton at the next Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 13 May.
The proposals are part of the Government’s Pride in Place strategy, which aims to strengthen local communities, revitalise neighbourhoods and increase local pride through long-term, community-led investment. A total of 284 neighbourhoods have been supported so far.
Pride in Place funding was allocated to Chaddesden West in the first round in 2025. An additional 40 neighbourhoods including New Normanton, were selected by the Government in March 2026.
In total, £20m will be invested in the area over 10 years supporting local residents to set their priorities and create lasting, positive change. The funding will build stronger communities, create thriving places, and empower people to take back control of their communities. This will be done through building community cohesion, creating thriving and vibrant high streets with a good range of local amenities, and empowering residents of New Normanton to have a say on the future of their community.
Councillor Sarah Chambers, Cabinet Member for Communities, Equalities and Public Safety, said:
It’s great news that New Normanton has been selected as the second area in Derby to benefit from this vital funding. Through the Pride in Place programme, we can work with local communities to ensure that the investment is led by them and that residents are at the heart of the decision-making process. This is a brilliant opportunity for residents’ voices to be heard.
Following approval, a Partnership Board, made up primarily of local residents, would be established to deliver the funding alongside community organisations, businesses, public sector partners, and the Member of Parliament for Derby South, Baggy Shanker. An Independent Chair would be appointed to lead the Board.
The Board will work towards a medium-term investment plan which will be submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government for review in winter 2026/27.
