Residents in Normanton are now reaping the benefits of greater transport choices, right on their doorstep.
Work to install the hub in the Grove Street car park is now complete, with the local community already benefiting from the new electric vehicle (EV) chargers, secure bike storage and interactive information totem, which provides real-time information about services.
The Grove Street mobility hub is also the first hub in the city to include a BP Pulse Alpitronic hypercharger, designed for taxis that benefit from short bursts of rapid charging.
Initial data for the Grove Street EV chargers is very positive, with the chargers at this hub being used for an average of 173 sessions in a four-week period. This outperforms other Future Transport Zone funded chargers in Derby and puts the hub in the top five best performers across the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) region.
As well as the new hub, work to make improvements to the car park next to the busy Normanton Road is also now complete. New CCTV is now also up and running, marking the officially complete.
Councillor Carmel Swan, Climate Change, Transport and Sustainability said:
The Grove Street hub represents our commitment to a cleaner, more connected Derby.
By taking what we’ve learned from other sites and listening to residents' views, we have delivered a facility that gives Normanton real travel flexibility. This project is another example of our commitment to delivering greater transport choices, reducing congestion and combating climate change - making our city a better place to live and work for everyone.
The Normanton site joins the existing network of mobility hubs in Six Streets, Chaddesden, and Allenton, with another currently under construction in Mackworth.
The installation of the Mobility hubs has been funded by the Government’s Future Transport Zones fund, which was awarded to Derby City Council to trial new and exciting developments in transport.
