Purpose of data collection
The Information Governance team collects and manages your personal data to ensure it is managed correctly as set out in the law. It is a statutory right that allows you access to your personal data.
Types of data collected
We collect a variety of personal and sensitive information for example:
- Contact details (name, address, phone, email)
- Date of birth and gender
- Identification documents provided to us (passport, driving license etc)
- Court issued documents (Lasting Power of Attorney)
- Records relating to your request such as social care and employment records
How data is used
- Identify who is asking for the information.
- Manage your requests for information
- Manage rights requests
- Support council services in managing information in compliance with the law
- Manage and investigate data breaches
- Respond to complaints and audits

- Police and public services
- Government and courts
- Lawyers, insurance, and IT experts
- Video editing companies
- Information Commissioner's Office
Your rights
- Access: You can ask for copies of your personal information held by the Council.
- Rectification: You can request corrections to any incorrect information.
- Deletion: You can ask for your personal information to be deleted, unless there's a legal reason to keep it.
- Portability: You can request your personal data to be transferred to other services or directly to you.
- Object/Restrict Processing: You can object to or limit how your data is used now and in the future.
- Prevent Automatic Decisions: You can challenge decisions made automatically without human involvement
