Purpose of data collection
The public health team collects your data to improve residents' health by using data to identify health needs and improve services.
Types of data collected
- Contact details (name, address, phone, email)
- Date of birth and gender
- NHS number
- Pseudonymised data – this contains information about individuals but with the identifiable details replaced with a unique code.
- Anonymised data – all identifying details are anonymised so individuals cannot be identified.
- Aggregated data – this is data that has been grouped together so that it doesn’t provide information on individuals, only groups of people.
How data is used
- Manage health services like infection control and health checks.
- Address public health risks and reduce city violence.
- Protect vulnerable people, including reviewing certain deaths.
- Plan and improve health services.
- Report health statistics.
Sharing of data
- Sharing of data to other council departments
- Sharing of data to external partners such as the police to fulfil legal requirements
- Sharing of data with other authorised partners.
Your rights
- Access: You can ask for copies of your personal information held by the Council.
- Rectification: You can request corrections to any incorrect information.
- Deletion: You can ask for your personal information to be deleted, unless there's a legal reason to keep it.
- Portability: You can request your personal data to be transferred to other services or directly to you.
- Object/Restrict Processing: You can object to or limit how your data is used now and in the future.
- Prevent Automatic Decisions: You can challenge decisions made automatically without human involvement.
