Who we are?
The Derby Employment Hub is a Way 2 Work project part funded by the European Social Fund, hosted by Derby City Council in partnership with Nottingham City Council.
Nottingham City Council is the lead partner, who has the main contact with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to claim the grant funding and monitor the project.

How do we collect information from you?
We collect information from you when you:
- fill in any forms linked to the enrolment process
- speak to us on the phone or talk to us face to face
- contact us in writing or by email
What types of information do we collect from you?
We collect different categories of information about you, depending on the service you want from us and/or the reason why we need to process information relating to you. This could be personal information (for example your name and address), or other more sensitive data that we would only collect and use in very particular circumstances that are set out in law.
Should you wish to exercise your statutory rights, outlined below, then we may request information from you to verify your identification such as a copy of your passport or driving licence.
Details of information obtained from third parties?
We will collect data from the following sources;
- Other Statutory Organisations including Department of Work and Pensions and Health Support Organisations
- Other Local Authorities within the D2N2 area
- Local Community and Voluntary Sector this will include organisations that provide support to the community including places of worship
- Other Council Directorates these include Welfare Reform, Children & Young People, Social Services. (This is not an exhaustive list)
- Training Providers for example C.T. Skills and East Midlands Chamber of Commerce
- Educational Institutions including local colleges and University
- Other programmes funded by the European Social Fund, including Building Better Opportunities.
How is your information used?
Depending on your requirements, we will use the information you have provided to:
- Register your enrolment with the Derby Employment Hub, a Way 2 Work project funded by the European Social Fund
- Assess your eligibility for the Derby Employment Hub
- Provide you with information on programmes, schemes or courses that we feel will be of benefit to you
- Allow an Employment Hub Advisor to assess your specific requirements for entering employment
- Refer you to employers or training providers. This could include a referral to Derby Adult Learning Services, Derby City Council’s internal training provider.
- Determine whether referral to other services would benefit you
- Keep you updated on new opportunities for employment or training
- Monitor your participation with the Derby Employment Hub programme
The DWP may use the information you provide to:
- monitor your employment status before enrolment with the Derby Employment Hub, and 6-12 months after you leave the programme. In doing this, DWP may link your information to official administrative records.
- conduct research through DWP’s suppliers. If this happens, all information will be made anonymous and you will not be contacted
By enrolling on the Derby Employment Hub programme you are giving your consent for your data to be used in this way.
Research and statistics
Anonymised and pseudonymised data may be used for research and statistical purposes. Any data collected may be used for research and statistical purposes that are relevant and compatible with the purpose that the data was collected for.
Who has access to your information?
We will share your information with:
- Nottingham City Council as evidence of your enrolment on the programme.
- Nottingham City Council will share the information with the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) and it will be used to evaluate this project and to report to Nottingham City Council and European Social Fund for monitoring purposes, in line with European Commission regulatory requirements. All details to be shared securely. Your information will also be shared with research organisations working on behalf of the Department for Work & Pensions who may contact you to discuss your involvement in the project for research purposes. Participation in research is voluntary and you will be asked to consent before taking part in any research activity you may be contacted about.
The DWP may also link your personal details to official administrative records in order to monitor your employment status before your ESF support began and 6 to 12 months after you left. This information may also be shared with research organisations working on behalf of the DWP however individuals will not be identifiable and you will not be contacted about this research. Data will not be used or shared for any commercial or marketing purposes.

- The Department of Work and Pensions but only in response to a direct request.
- Derby Employment Hub partners such as prospective employers or training providers while you participate in the scheme. This will only be done with your prior agreement.
We may also share your data with other services provided by or on behalf of Derby City Council, this includes Derby Adult Learning Services This will only be done with your prior agreement.
We will not sell or rent your information to third parties. We will not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
What are your rights?
- Access – you can request copies of any of your personal information that is held by the Council.
- Rectification – you can ask us to correct any incorrect information.
- Deletion – you can ask us to delete your personal information. The Council can refuse to delete information if we have a lawful reason to keep this.
- Portability – you can ask us to transfer your personal data to different services or to you.
- Right to object or restrict processing – you have the right to object to how your data is being used and how it is going to be used in the future.
- Right to prevent automatic decisions – you have the right to challenge a decision that affects you that has been made automatically without human intervention, for example an online form with an instant decision.
How long will we keep your information?
For the time that you are enrolled on the programme and for a period of up to twelve months after you leave the scheme, your information will be retained by Derby City Council Derby Employment Hub. We keep and dispose of all records in line with our record retention schedule; information about this is at https://www.derby.gov.uk/retention-schedule/. We will comply with Data Protection legislation.
What security precautions are in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of your information?
We are strongly committed to data security and will take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or corruption. We have put in place physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard the information you provide to us. However, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us. We recommend that you take every precaution to protect your personal information.
Keeping your data up to date
We want to ensure any information we hold is accurate. You can help us by promptly informing us of any changes to the information we hold about you.

No automated decision processing takes place with the data you provide.

If you are accessing online services and are under the age of 13‚ please ask for your parent or guardian's permission beforehand whenever you provide us with personal information
Opt out
If you do not wish your personal data to be used for ESF evaluation purposes please contact esf.evaluations@dwp.gsi.gov.uk and they will delete your data held for these purposes and you won’t be contacted about participating in research.
