COVID-19 Bus Service Support Grant (CBSSG)
We've received a number of government grants from the Department for Transport (DfT) during the COVID-19 pandemic. These have been used to support local bus services by providing additional buses on existing school services, enabling improvements for social distancing and to provide enhanced levels of public toilet cleaning at Derby Bus Station:
Three initial grants, totalling £29,277, were added to the remaining balance of £31,799 from a previously-received DfT Supported Bus Services Grant of £40,799*. The combined grant funds created a total COVID-19 support package of £61,076. This amount was divided equally between the two major local bus service operators in Derby, with payments of £30,538 being made to both trentbarton and Arriva.
Between 9 June 2020 and 31 August 2021, we received a further eight CBSSG COVID-19 support grants. A total of £72,120 has been used to fund two additional return duplicate bus services (which ran a total of 11,433 km (baseline data for 2019; 0 km) on services 255 and 261, to and from Saint Benedict RC Academy and to provide enhanced cleaning of the public toilets at Derby Bus Station.
*£9,000 of this previous grant had been paid as support towards a further year of operation of the 17/17A bus service.
