Cremations
Markeaton Crematorium facilities
There are two chapels available for services:
- The Main Chapel seats 98 and has some standing room.
- The Round Chapel seats 40 and has limited standing room.
There is a separate waiting room for each chapel with toilet facilities; disabled toilet facilities are available off the Main Chapel waiting room.
Service times are available between 8am and 3.30pm. Services are scheduled every hour; this allows 45 minutes service time, and 15 minutes for chapel preparation, entry to and exit from the chapel.
The Wesley Music System is available in both chapels.
The visitor's car park is accessible off Markeaton Lane, and is well sign posted.
There is a small car park next to the main building for use by less mobile and disabled visitors and following family cars.
We have a ramp for wheelchair access into and out of the chapels and the office. A wheelchair is available for use on request.
Only assistance dogs such as guide dogs are allowed into the grounds and chapels of the crematorium.

Can I leave flowers at the crematorium?
Funeral tributes
Floral tributes from funerals are removed for disposal one week after the funeral date.
Anniversary tributes
Cut flowers and potted plants can be placed on the Flower Terrace outside the Book of Remembrance Room. Vases and water are available on the Flower Terrace. The Flower Terrace will be tidied on a regular basis and any flowers that are no longer fresh will be disposed of.
Vases must NOT be removed from the Flower Terrace to be placed elsewhere in the grounds.
Vases and potted plants must not be placed in the Book of Remembrance Room as the moisture can damage the books.
We have a strict policy of removing flowers each morning from around the grounds and returning them to the Flower Terrace.
Christmas wreaths
Christmas wreaths and memorabilia are removed from the grounds from the day following 12th night (6 January).
Placing of memorials in grounds
Vases, wind chimes, candles, toys or ornaments are not allowed in any part of the grounds. These will be removed and disposed of without prior notice by us. Please do not nail items to the trees as this causes damage and upset to other visitors.
One week after the funeral you will be sent a memorial information pack giving details of the memorials available. This will not be sent if you have chosen to opt out when completing the cremation particulars form.
Personal memorials are not allowed in the grounds and will be removed without prior notice.
